The IBIS Society is an iteration of an idea born in 2016–The Indigo Times. Through The Indigo Times, I was able to amass thousands of followers with the goal of promoting introspection through thoughtful cultural commentary. However, after much success and a trajectory aimed for the stars, I disappeared from social media.
In this first entry, I will lay the foundation of where I went and why The Indigo Times is being reborn as a new vision, The IBIS Society.
When I disappeared from social media, I was, simultaneously, reintroduced to the world after relocating to a new state in 2021. I moved with my mom without career or financial prospects and immediately got a service-based job to make ends meet. All of my time went into survival and so the time I put into my social media platforms slowed to a crawl.
However, during this time, I got to apply the philosophical ideas I spoke of in my videos to the real world. Through trial and error, I learned which ideas were pragmatic and useful and which ones were for display-purposes only. I met people from all walks of life and found the beauty of philosophy in the simplest of interactions. And, as a result of real life application, I sharpened my thoughts, my beliefs, and my philosophy–and documented my journey through journal entries over the past two years. Yet, I did not make a single post about any of it.
Until now.
During my time away, I refined myself, made new friends, climbed the career ladder, and found the love of my life. A lot of my ideas presented on my platforms in the past, while a lot of it true, were devoid of life experiences necessary to be what I consider wise. I needed to step away and apply myself as a true student to my ideas and the ideas of those I respected most. And so, after amassing these experiences and growing exponentially as an individual, I finally feel it is time to come back with a renewed vision.
The mission of The IBIS Society is to encourage people to discover their own inner philosopher. Similar to children, our moral lives start off first as a mimicry of thoughts given to us by parents, friend groups, religion, and government but, the true test of morality and ethics, is learning to refine one’s thinking with intentional curation. No one school of thought holds the answer to what ails our individual lives–only our spirit knows. And so it is to our benefit to glean from great thinkers from every era with the soul as the great orchestrator.
The IBIS Society is here to help bridge the gap of a world in which humanity has more moral quandaries than ever before and the personal ethics required to answer them not only as individuals but as members of an increasingly complex society.
I hope you will join me.
